Great advice about hiring a mobile DJ:

I recently took a call from a delightful young middle school student who called (during class) to inquire about our pricing for a school dance. She wasted no time in asking what everyone seems to want to know, “How much do you charge?” I replied, “That’s a fair question, but in order to quote you the best price, I need to know when your dance is, where you are located, what type of event you’re having, and how many people will be there. All of these things can affect the price.”

She replied, “Umm, but how much do you cost?” (Insert cartoon of me with smoking “fizzle” coming out of my ears.)

I have two very important points to make regarding pricing. First, I would caution anyone who starts calling mobile DJ’s not to just compare price alone. If all you’re doing is looking for the cheapest DJ, and you succeed in finding the cheapest one, you’re pretty much guaranteeing that your party will be the worst one around.

Just like anyone looking to spend a moderate amount of money on any important purchase, why don’t event organizers make their selection of a DJ based on value - what you get for the money - instead of price alone?

Secondly, there IS a difference in mobile DJ’s. Some DJ’s are young and inexperienced, put only the minimum investment into their equipment, steal music from the internet instead of purchasing it legally, dress and act inappropriately at most events they do, and have no back-up equipment available in case of problems. Some fly-by-night operations have even taken deposits then disappeared, never to be heard from again.

The Oklahoma Party Patrol recently invested over $19,000 into all-new professional-quality equipment. Our DJ, Daniel Baker, has over 18 years experience doing all types of events, and he has never missed a show for any reason. Our biggest light show has 19 lighting effects, 4 lasers, and a giant mirror ball. No other DJ service offers all that we offer for prices as reasonable as ours. Are we the cheapest? Most of the time, no. Sometimes we are. However, is The Oklahoma Party Patrol an excellent value? Absolutely. We offer more features and FUN for less money than anyone else.

Our Pricing:

Some mobile DJ companies have set pricing. We feel that every show is different, and if you want the best price possible, you need to consult with us on the phone about your event. We are also flexible, which means we will try to work with your budget. Hiring a much better DJ isn’t necessarily more expensive than hiring a really mediocre one. That being said, here are some guidelines to help you understand our pricing:

We don’t charge by the hour. This results in much higher fees for longer events, which really isn’t logical.

For casual school dances or college parties, most range from around $200 to $500. Of course, a 2 hour party in Oklahoma City (nearby) from 7pm to 9pm on a Tuesday or Thursday in a gym (easy to load in and out) for 75 guests (medium-size light show) is going to be closer to $200. Alternately, a 4 hour party in Tulsa (100 miles away) from 8 to midnight on a Friday or Saturday in the upstairs party room at a restaurant (more difficult load in and out) for 300 guests (large light show) will be closer to $500. There are a number of factors to consider, please call and tell us about your event, and we will quote you the best price possible.

For semi-formal events, such as banquets, class reunions, corporate dinners and the like, where you might expect us to play dinner music, make announcements and give out door prizes, and round out the evening with dancing and requests from the guests, expect to pay $350 to $650.

Proms mainly happen on Friday and Saturday nights during March, April and May. Those nights are considered “high demand” nights. Because of this, most proms are in the $550 to $750 range. If your budget isn’t quite there, but you want the best DJ available, just call and discuss it with us. If your prom-goers are paying $50 each for a limo, $50-200 each on wardrobe, and $40 on dinner, why not around $1 to $5 each for top notch entertainment? (Depending on your number of guests.)

Wedding receptions require the most work and pre-show planning, and we work very hard to make every wedding reception very unique and special. Some mobile DJ companies will tell you that you can’t get a great reception DJ for under $1000. We prove that wrong all the time, as our wedding reception pricing is normally around $650 to $850.

Every event is unique, and there may be a number of circumstances under which you could pay less than the pricing listed above. Just call. (405) 919-0869.

Terms:

We have excellent terms which are very fair...

(This is a partial list. Consult our contract for full terms.)

1. No deposit is due. Full payment on the day of the event is required.

2. A signed contract is required in order to be officially booked.

3. 14-day (prior to event) “no-cancellation allowed” window. (Otherwise, no penalty to cancel, for any reason.)

4. We bring all of our own equipment, all we need is an open flat area.

5. We cannot navigate multiple steps or stairs. Your venue must be handicap accessible from our vehicle all the way to the set-up area. (Elevators are okay, but stairs just won’t work for our heavy equipment.)

6. We accept cash, check, or most major credit cards (through PayPal, add 3%).

7. We normally arrive to set-up at least an hour before the event is to start, and we can be torn down and gone usually within 45 minutes of the end of the event, sometimes faster.
